THE Dar es Salaam based African Lyon yesterday named Soccia Lionel, a French citizen as the club’s new Head Coach ahead of the incoming Mainland Premier League season.
Addressing members of the media at Uhuru Stadium in the city where the team is drilling itself ahead of the new season, the club’s Manager Adam Kipatacho said the coming in of the new coach will help a lot the team to be competitive in the league and be among the title contenders.
“We have managed to sign one of the best coaches who will assist us a lot as far as fighting for survival in the league is concerned.
Most people are underrating us by saying that we cannot offer the required resistance throughout the contest but I want to assure Tanzanians that African Lyon is a transformed team capable to do wonders in the upcoming league,” he said.
Adding, Kipatacho said Lionel has not just come to Tanzania to coach but that he will also be used as a bridge to connect players from the country with European teams since he has a broad network in football circles.
Commenting on Victor Da Costa, an attacking midfielder who has joined African Lyon for a two-year deal from France’s Ligue 1, Kipatacho described him as a big asset to the club.
He said the striker is sharp on the target. “He is a good player who will help the club a lot due to his ability to score goals.
So far, he has already netted four goals in two friendly matches we have played and his sharpness on goal is improving day after day,” Kipatacho said.
In his brief address to the media, Lionel said he is expecting to have a memorable season in Tanzania and promised to give it all to his new club
