GP Gymkhana club cricket tourney enters crucial stage

CRICKET fans are eagerly waiting for exciting matches, as the ongoing GP Gymkhana Shield Cricket tournament enters deciding weekend.

The tournament group stage which officially started on June 30th this year is played every weekend at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) in the city. According to the organisers DGC Cricket Section captain Ashish Nagewadia four matches will be played this weekend, start with only one Group B match between MCC and Ismaili Community today.

It will be a deciding today for MCC an only victory over Ismaili will keep their hopes alive before their final group match tomorrow. MCC have lost two matches and are currently settled bottom of the group B table without a point.

On the other hand, Ismaili will be all out for the victory so as to confirm their place in the next stage of the tournament. They sit top of the table with four points from two matches. Tomorrow, MCC will take on Jain Sangh and Patel Samaj will have a date with SKLPSC B.

All the matches will decide which teams will sail through to the next stage of the event. Jain Sangh have also posted four points from two matches but are placed second on the table behind Ismaili on superior net run rate.

Patel Samaj and SKLPSC encounter is billed to be thrilling because all teams have collected two points from three matches. Both teams’ dream to progresses into the tournament’s last eight stage will be decided by results of the match pitting Jain Sangh and MCC.

Tomorrow’s early game will be Group D encounter between Lions CC against Dik- Diks. Lions, who sat second on the log with four points, will need victory to keep alive their chances of making it into the quarterfinals.

They are two points behind group leaders who have six from three matches, while Dik- Diks are bottom without a point from two matches. The DGC Cricket Section organised the tournament, which brought together 20 teams pooled in four groups.

They compete in Twenty-over format before two teams in each group sail through into the last eight.
