Samia: We’re determined to cut maternal mortality rate

President Samia Suluhu Hassan said the government continues with efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality in the country.

The Head of State also reiterated her government’s determination to reduce the maternal mortality rate from 321 per 100,000 births to 220 per 100,000 births by 2025/26, as highlighted in the National Five-Year Development Plan.

President Samia disclosed this on Tuesday during the inauguration of Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT)’s newly constructed Maternal and Newborn wing, saying that best healthcare can reduce mortality rate.

She said The government was also determined to reduce the child mortality rate from 51 deaths in every 1,000 to 40 by year 2025/26 as she applauded the CCBRT initiative to construct the state-of-the-art facility which gears to cut child mortality rate.

Before she delivered her speech, President Samia inspected the facility which contains eight private rooms for delivery whereby partners or relatives will be allowed to comfort their partners when giving birth.

She added: “their presence will also try to provide adequate care so that when the delivery day comes the mother will have an easier way to bring the baby into the world… I think the government will follow suit.

 Elaborating, the Head of State noted the government was ready to ensure recruitment of qualified staff to provide services to wananchi.

“The construction of this hospital is an Implementation of the CCM Manifesto,” she said.
