Jishushe

The word “jishushe” comes from Kiswahili, and it is derived from the verb “kujishusha”, which is a reflexive form of “kushusha” (to lower, to bring down).

Meaning:Jishushe means “lower yourself”, “humble yourself”, or “reduce your pride” depending on context.It is often used when advising someone to be humble or less arrogant, or to step down from a high position/attitude.

Origin:From the root -shusha (to lower/bring down).The reflexive prefix “ji-” means “yourself” → “jishusha” = “lower yourself”.The form “jishushe” is the imperative (command) form: “humble yourself”.

How to use in a sentence:1. Jishushe mbele ya wazee ili upate baraka.(Humble yourself before elders so that you may receive blessings.)2. Ukikosea, jishushe na uombe msamaha.(If you make a mistake, humble yourself and apologize.)3. Jishushe kidogo, si kila kitu unakijua.(Humble yourself a bit, you don’t know everything.)
