Origin The word “jua” comes from Proto-Bantu origins, as many Swahili words do. It is shared in many Bantu languages with similar forms (e.g., luzuba in some Bantu dialects for “sun”). Swahili, being a Bantu language influenced by Arabic, retained this root.
