“Penye nia pana njia”

Origin:This is a well-known Swahili proverb (methali ya Kiswahili). It comes from traditional Swahili wisdom and reflects the idea that determination and commitment can help a person overcome obstacles. It is not usually attributed to one specific person.

Meaning:Literally, it means “Where there is determination, there is a way.”The deeper meaning is that when someone genuinely wants to achieve something and is determined to do it, they will look for solutions and find a way despite difficulties.

It is similar to the English proverb:“Where there’s a will, there’s a way.”

How to use it

You can use it when encouraging someone who is facing difficulties or when explaining how someone succeeded despite obstacles.

Example 1:Nilikuwa sina pesa ya kuanzisha biashara, lakini nilianza kidogo kidogo na hatimaye nikafanikiwa. Penye nia pana njia.

English:I didn’t have enough money to start a business, but I started small and eventually succeeded. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Example 2:Usikate tamaa kwa sababu ya changamoto za masomo. Penye nia pana njia.

English:Don’t give up because of the challenges in your studies. Where there is a will, there is a way.

Example 3:Alitaka kusoma chuo licha ya kukosa fedha. Alifanya kazi na kuweka akiba mpaka akapata nafasi ya kusoma. Hakika, penye nia pana njia.

English:She wanted to attend university despite lacking money. She worked and saved until she got the opportunity to study. Indeed, where there is a will, there is a way.
