SMZ kuboresha huduma za umeme
ZANZIBAR: RAIS wa Zanzibar na Mwenyekiti wa Baraza la Mapinduzi, Dk. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, amesema Serikali itaendeleza miradi ya kimkakati katika sekta ya nishati ili kuhakikisha Zanzibar inakuwa na umeme wa uhakika na wa kuaminika.
Akizungumza jana kwenye hafla ya uzinduzi wa mradi wa uboreshaji wa mfumo wa umeme Zanzibar, uliofanyika katika viwanja vya Hoteli ya Verde, Mtoni, Mkoa wa Mjini Magharibi, Dk. Mwinyi alisema hatua hiyo ni muhimu katika kuchochea ukuaji wa uchumi, kuboresha huduma kwa wananchi na kuimarisha mazingira ya uwekezaji. SOMA: Mashine mpya ya umeme yawasili Mtwara
Alisema uzinduzi huo ni uthibitisho wa dhamira ya Serikali katika utekelezaji wa ahadi zake kwa wananchi, sambamba na kuondoa changamoto za kukatika kwa umeme, kupungua kwa kiwango cha umeme katika baadhi ya maeneo na kupunguza gharama za uendeshaji.
Aidha, Dk. Mwinyi alisema Serikali itaendelea kujenga miundombinu mipya ya umeme ikiwemo kuwekeza katika nishati mbadala kupitia jua na upepo pamoja na kuanzisha mitambo ya usambazaji umeme kwa wananchi. Aliongeza kuwa utekelezaji wa mikakati hiyo unalenga kuhakikisha takribani wananchi 70,000 wanapatiwa huduma ya umeme.
Katika hatua nyingine, Rais Mwinyi aliwahakikishia wananchi kuwa Serikali ipo mbioni kushusha gharama za kuunganisha umeme majumbani kutoka Sh 200,000 za sasa hadi kufikia Sh 100,000 pekee.
Vilevile, alifafanua kuwa Serikali inatekeleza mikakati mingine ikiwemo kuviunganisha visiwa vidogo vya Njau na Kokota na huduma ya umeme, pamoja na kukamilisha mradi mkubwa wa nyaya za umeme chini ya bahari (Submarine Power Cable) utakaosambaza nishati kisiwani Pemba.
Katika hafla hiyo, Rais Mwinyi alipongeza Wizara ya Maji, Nishati na Madini pamoja na Kampuni ya NOVASIS International kwa usimamizi bora na ukamilishaji wa mradi huo kwa wakati, huku akiwataka wananchi na wadau kulinda miundombinu hiyo ili ilete manufaa yaliyokusudiwa.
Kwa upande wake, Katibu Mkuu wa Wizara ya Maji, Nishati na Madini, Joseph Kilangi, alisema mradi huo uliogharimu Dola za Marekani milioni 8.4, na kukamilika kwake kumeiwezesha Zanzibar kupokea umeme kutoka Tanzania Bara kwa kiwango cha kilovoti 132 badala ya kilovoti 114 kilichokuwapo awali.
